JET Programme

This coming September I will be applying to the JET Programme to teach English in Japan for a year, specifically the year after I graduate from MSU. I'll need to make a check list of everything that needs doing, one of them being getting transcripts from AYF, since they'll have exact information about my courses here, as opposed to the MSU transcript, which will probably just write down my equivalencies.

I got a hair cut today and they cut my ear for free. What a deal!

I hate not having a working computer. AGH! Just imagine what's it's going to be like when/if I go to Japan. I'll have to be more prepared for that, I guess ( like, bringing a Windows XP cdrom with me next time ... ).

I spoke briefly with my Gender and Language prof yesterday and tomorrow I'll go to her office hour to speak about my term paper. I got a 3 on the German scale ( 1 is highest, 6 is lowest ), which is like a B or B- ( a 3.0 ) on the American scale. It's pretty much what I expected, since it's really hard to get a 1 even as a native German speaker and because I've never written a linguistics paper before.

Well, it'S off to the library to check out some more books. Eegads. At least they'll be in English.

Stuff

Sorry I haven't updated with anything noteworthy lately.

This past weekend I hosted a few students that had just graduated and were making their way through Germany, Switzerland, and France. The theme of the weekend was definitely 'local food and brews', as we made a dinner with ingredients from the Markt am Münster ( market under the cathedral ) and enjoyed some Hefeweizen and organic beer ( Freiburg, you're so green ) at a Biergarten on Augustinerplatz.

Then on Saturday I had a mock EU meeting for the AYF EU course. It went by surprisingly quickly for being 6 hours long.

I can finally pick up my Hausarbeit that I turned in last semester. But I need to find a Scheinformular ( sheet to record my grade on ) so they can give me a grade. Ugh.

My friend Patrick should be stopping by either today or tomorrow, but I have a feeling it's going to be tomorrow. I hope.

Hey, I don't have to write a Hausarbeit for Botany. Just do the Klausur ( final exam ). Whooohooo. History paper is coming along and I need to talk with my Art History Prof still.

I also still need to call Aer Lingus about the flight they rescheduled and get FAFSA stuff ( whoops ) done.

I'm moving out of my dorm on the last day of July and then I'll be crashing for a week at a friend's dorm. Fun.

More pictures and stuff soon.

Busy busy

It's time to start pulling books of the library shelf, because it's Hausarbeit season again! How time flies. History, Art History, and Botany!

A new tutorat for Botany started today and I participated again. Ugh. German. Sometimes it just doesn't go and sometimes I don't realize how many words I actually know, so I settle for an approximation, which doesn't fly in science.

What else? Hm. I dunno. Life goes on and my comp is still down. Bumming Internet and stuff off of friends for the time being. It's a bummer.

Bikes in Freiburg

I saw a sign in the lobby of UZH the other day and thought it really embodied the relationship people have with their bikes here; they're like married couples. WARNING: very harsh language.

Hey, you fucker!

You must not be well-endowed, because you stole my tire pump to replace your self-esteem! Never in our 2 years together have my bike and I experienced such a thing. Go fuck yourself.
.

That's all. Computer is still down, but I backed some stuff up.
